Bushcraft courses Join us in the wild and be part of it!

Islay Bushcraft

Brilliant for Beginners, Excellent for Experts

When did you just look out of your window? What's your story? Would you like to find out how to live in harmony with your environment? Here is your chance to get up close and personal with Nature by learning and following the ancient principles and skills of bushcraft. Simplicity is the key. I can teach you how to be self-sufficient - with the minimum of equipment - to enhance your enjoyment of the great outdoors.

Islay Bushcraft offers you the opportunity to taste life on the outer edge (in every sense) and wonder at this Hebridean splendour - one of the few real wilderness places left in Britain - where, since Mesolithic times, humans have lived side by side with Mother Nature.

You will walk in rhythm with her, coming to realise that she is not a warehouse, but a teacher; going nowhere in particular and appreciating that the journey is important, not just the destination. In becoming aware of the power of places to inspire, you will rediscover ancient skills and lost wisdom and your inner wild child.

Islay Bushcraft is unique - the only Bushcraft school in Britain to include sleeping in caves. You will leave no trace of your visit. The only rubbish you'll leave behind is... junk mail, predictive text, multiple tv channels, to do lists, remote controls, supermarket queues, one way systems, traffic jams - add your own (thanks to howies®)

I will be your guide and support you on what may turn out to be as much an inner as an outer journey. As an independent Educator/Facilitator and Ranger Guide (some say expert) I have spent well over three decades travelling and teaching, exploring and experiencing Nature at her wildest. My journeys have taken me from beyond the Arctic Circle to Southern Africa, but I have found nowhere as intensely amazing day by day as Islay, where my family and I settled some years ago and where we run our own sustainable education business, Islay Birding and Bushcraft.
